955 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the capital projects financed by his Department in each constituency, which commenced or were completed in 2002; the amount of money in each case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1514/03]

The information requested by the Deputy is set out below on a county basis. Where a constituency covers two counties, the information is grouped. The information refers to capital projects commenced or completed by the Department in 2002. It does not include regular ongoing capital works, such as maintenance, nor does it include capital grants made by the Department during the year, for example, housing grants in the Gaeltacht.

The Deputy might also note that information on the local drug task force premises initiative is shown separately. This initiative is on a grant basis with expenditure of €4.039 million in 2002. Waterways Ireland, a North-South implementation body has its capital projects in the South financed through this Department and these are included. Under the CLÁR Programme, €14.14million was spent in 2002 on capital projects in 17 counties, mainly in relation to roads, water schemes, sewerage schemes, village enhancement and sports. Given the considerable volume of projects involved CLÁR expenditure is grouped on a county basis.

The Department also has responsibility for the LEADER+ and national rural development programmes. Under these approved local action groups are funded with public funding, EU and national, to implement multi-sectoral business plans for the development of rural areas. In total there are 38 groups operating in all 26 counties and these are engaged in funding small-scale capital projects. Figures under these schemes are not included in the county breakdown.
