Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Joe Costello

Question:

969 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the number of executive officer vacancies that exist in each Government Department which have not been notified to the Civil Service Commission and which fall within the remit of the confined executive officer panel; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [27120/02]

All vacancies in my Department which fall within the remit of the Civil Service Commission panels have been notified to the Office of the Civil Service and Local Appointments Commissioners.

Vacancies at executive officer level are filled in accordance with a centrally agreed series, with agreed liabilities to both internal promotion panels and promotion from the Civil Service and Local Appointments Commissioners panels, on a ratio of 1:3 respectively. The agreed arrangements provide that two of the three appointments from the Civil Service Commission panels are made from the interdepartmental panel with the remaining appointment made from the open executive officer panel.

The Office of the Civil Service and Local Appointments Commissioners have overall responsibility for maintaining the correct sequence of appointments between the open and interdepartmental panels.
