Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Drink Prices.

Richard Bruton

Question:

174 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her attention has been drawn to the fact that, in the week ahead of the budget, there was a concerted move to raise the price of the pint in Dublin by 10c; if she has communicated with the Competition Authority regarding the possibility of an anti-competitive agreement on pricing being in place; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [27048/02]

Responsibility for investigating allegations of price fixing agreements, decisions by associations of undertakings and concerted practices is vested, under the Competition Act 2002 in the Competition Authority. That Act also increased considerably the penalties for such activities. I was not aware of the specific allegation referred to in the question. I would advise persons with information concerning allegations of this kind to bring it to the attention of the Competition Authority.
