Vol. 560 No. 2

Written Answers. - Redundancy Payments.

Paddy McHugh

Question:

30 Mr. McHugh asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment her plans to ensure that new statutory redundancy entitlements are put in place before June 2003 to enable the 385 people who are being made redundant in Square D, Ballinasloe, to avail of the maximum possible entitlements; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2224/03]

The proposed higher levels of statutory redundancy payments are being considered by the social partners and have not yet been agreed or subjected to ratification. It is my firm intention to bring any agreed increase in statutory redundancy payments into effect at the earliest possible date. The necessary preparatory work is currently under way in my Department in anticipation of a favourable outcome to the ratification process.
