Vol. 560 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sheep Quota.

Michael Ring

Question:

33 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the position regarding persons (details supplied) in County Mayo receiving sheep quota from the national reserve. [2173/03]

The persons named applied for an allocation of ewe premium quota from the 2003 national reserve. On their application they declared that they had a share in commonage land. Since the commonage framework plan specifies a 50.86% destocking in respect of the commonage concerned, it was not possible in such circumstances to allocate ewe premium quota to them or indeed anyone else farming on that commonage.

If they undertake not to use their commonage land nor allow other farmers to use their share, then quota may be allocated to them. In this regard they should contact the quota section of my Department at Michael Davitt House, Castlebar, County Mayo to complete the necessary undertaking.
