Vol. 560 No. 3

Written Answers. - Public Transport

Dan Boyle

Question:

347 Mr. Boyle asked the Minister for Transport the benefit which travelling members of the public will derive from his proposals that the CIE group of companies should be broken up; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2322/03]

The objective of the overall programme of reform in public transport, which includes the establishment of the CIE subsidiaries as independent companies, the establishment of an independent regulatory function and the introduction of new arrangements for the regulation of the bus market, is to ensure a good quality public transport service, with a greater focus on delivery, value for money and responsiveness to customer requirements.
