Question:

35 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the total number of Garda personnel; the total number of Garda hours allocated since 1 December 2002 to providing additional protection at Shannon Airport, arising from the presence of US troops and aircraft; the total estimated costs involved in the operation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2931/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of resources including personnel, that a total of 329 Garda personnel were deployed at Shannon Airport for a total of 2,107 hours in the period 1 December 2002 to 31 January 2003.

The total estimated cost for the same period was €60,606.
