Vol. 561 No. 3

Other Questions. - Beef Exports.

John Bruton

Question:

11 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the quantity of beef and number of live cattle exported to Russia since the lifting of the country ban on beef exports; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3957/03]

There were no exports of live cattle to the Russian Federation during or prior to the period in question because Russia is not a market for live cattle exports.

A total of more than 26,000 tonnes of beef was exported to the Russian Federation in the period from 12 September 2002, when the county ban was lifted, to 11 February 2003. In all, total beef exports to Russia in 2002 came to 83,000 tonnes, compared to 43,000 tonnes in 2001.

I am happy with that reply.
