Vol. 561 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

238 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if an area aid application for 2002 for a person (details supplied) in County Galway has been adjudicated upon; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4638/03]

The person named submitted an area aid application, which included land that was also claimed by another herdowner. My Department contacted both herdowners to clarify the matter. Both herdowners responded indicating that they did have the right to claim the area in question. In order to resolve this issue an inspection of the land parcel in question will take place shortly. Until this matter is resolved the area aid application of the person named cannot be fully processed and no further area related payments can issue.

The person named was paid €1,172.33 on 20 September 2002 under the area-based compensatory allowance scheme in respect of 13.19 hectares of more severely handicapped land at €88.88 per hectare. This payment may need to be reviewed depending on the outcome of inquiries relative to the parcel for which there is a duplicate claim.

The person named submitted three applications in respect of four animals under the 2002 special beef premium scheme. Advance payment issued on the first application in respect of two animals on 16 October 2002. The second and third applications were submitted in November and December and will be eligible for payment following the completion of the retention period, subject to compliance with scheme requirements. However, no further payments may issue to the person named until the outstanding area aid issues are resolved.
The person named applied for premium for four animals under the 2002 suckler cow premium scheme. The application has been fully processed and payment will issue as soon as area aid issues are resolved.
