Vol. 561 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Michael Ring

Question:

273 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science if a school has ever been built without a catchment area being identified. [4335/03]

I assume the Deputy is referring specifically to post-primary level, where the concept of a catchment area has particular relevance in the determination of long-term accommodation requirements and school transport arrangements. The precise configuration of a catchment area is determined following a review of existing provision and consultation with current providers of post-primary education in the area concerned. I am not aware of any schools having been built where a catchment area was not defined.
