In regard to funding, my Department has over 400 primary schools buildings projects in architectural planning. In order to ensure the long-term planning of capital provision through a precise and detailed identification of accommodation needs in schools, my Department has undertaken, on a pilot basis, a comprehensive inventory of accommodation of 115 primary and post primary schools in County Kildare. The information gained from the survey has been placed on the geographic information system, GIS, database. My Department is currently undertaking a detailed assessment of the pilot phase of the inventory to determine the exact nature and extent of a nationwide survey having regard to available resources.
The budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on projects that could not be included in this year's programme.
