Vol. 562 No. 2

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31 from Deputies Gormley and Pat Breen. I propose to call the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

I seek the adjournment of the House under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following issue of national importance which requires urgent attention: the decision by the Government to acquire a new jet while retaining the existing Government jet, at a time when real investment is required in health, education, transport and the environment.

I seek the adjournment of the House under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following matter: last night's announcement of the withdrawal, on security grounds, of two further US carriers, North American Airlines and Miami Air, from Shannon Airport and the detrimental effect this will have on US commercial carriers and on Ireland's transatlantic tourism business for 2003.

Having considered the matters raised I do not consider them to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and therefore I cannot grant leave to move the motions.
