Vol. 562 No. 3

Written Answers - Disabled Drivers.

John McGuinness

Question:

104 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Finance the status of a review of the primary medical cert scheme; if the review is completed; if recommendations have been made; if the scheme is to be continued; if a new scheme will be introduced; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6022/03]

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the review of the disabled drivers' and disabled passengers' (tax concessions) scheme.

An interdepartmental group was established to review the disabled drivers' and disabled passengers' scheme. The group examined all aspects of the scheme including the qualifying medical criteria.

I have received the report of the interdepartmental review group on the disabled drivers' and disabled passengers' (tax concessions) scheme and it is currently being considered. Any recommendations contained in this report in relation to the medical criteria and other conditions of the scheme will receive full consideration.
