Vol. 562 No. 6

Written Answers - Hospital Car Parks.

Joan Burton

Question:

64 Ms Burton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he intends to issue guidelines to hospitals regarding arrangements for the construction of carparks, having regard to the findings of the report from the Comptroller and Auditor General that one such deal involving Beaumont Hospital cost the taxpayer ?13 million; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6632/03]

I have established a group to examine the lessons that can be learned from the Beaumont Hospital project and to prepare guidelines for health agencies on the proper management of such initiatives in the future. The group has consulted with the relevant persons in the health sector and is currently in the process of finalising draft guidelines to be implemented in any future carpark developments. My Department will discuss the draft guidelines with the Comptroller and Auditor General before they are issued. Following the conclusion of discussions with the Comptroller and Auditor General's office, my Department will make the guidelines available to health agencies.
