Bernard Allen

Question:

184 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Transport if he will review the NDP in view of the spatial strategy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7174/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 140, 177 and 184 together.

I expect all projects in the rail, road and aviation sectors being funded through the NDP will be completed. Some projects will run beyond their time limit. Unfortunately, it is not possible to identify them at this stage as completion of the programme will be dependent on funding levels and the prevailing budgetary and economic situation over the coming years.

The 2003 Estimates for my Department show the significant investment that is being made in the provision of transport infrastructure. They clearly demonstrate the Government's strong ongoing commitment to the NDP programme and to maintaining a high level of investment in infrastructural projects.

A review of the NDP will be undertaken in the current year taking into account the national spatial strategy and prevailing economic conditions.
