Vol. 563 No. 2

Written Answers - Garda Contracts.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

144 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the action it is intended to take arising from the findings of the Comptroller and Auditor General that the Garda Síochána breached rules for the granting of Government contracts when it obtained its system for recording interviews with suspects; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7322/03]

The report of the Comptroller and Auditor General into Garda interview recording systems was presented to this House on 18 February last. The findings of the report, and in particular the need to address shortcomings identified in it, are being discussed with the Garda authorities in the wider context of proposed enhancements to the procurement process.

It is worth noting, however, that although the report pointed up certain breaches of public procurement processes, the Comptroller and Auditor General concluded that these breaches did not materially affect the contract award decision.
