Vol. 563 No. 2

Written Answers - Multi-Denominational Schools.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

206 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will allocate extra funding for Educate Together to assist in their work to provide parents with the opportunity to exercise their statutory right to have their children educated in a multi-denominational school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7522/03]

The position is that my Department provides grant aid to the respective primary school management bodies to defray costs incurred in the running of their organisations. These costs can include mail issues to boards of management, the organisation of seminars and meetings, the commissioning of research and other miscellaneous expenses. In 2002, my Department provided grant aid of €39,800 to Educate Together under this scheme. A grant for this amount will issue to Educate Together later this year in respect of 2003.
