Vol. 563 No. 4

Written Answers - Special Educational Needs.

Beverley Flynn

Question:

303 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason a family with two dyslexic children (details supplied) in County Mayo was not awarded a home computer when the educational psychologist's report recommended it. [7853/03]

My Department operates a scheme of grants to primary and post primary schools to facilitate the purchase of special equipment, including computers, for the use of pupils with special educational needs. Under the terms of the scheme, pupils may with the consent of the board of management, use such computer equipment at home to assist them in their education. It is open to the parents to discuss this option with the school management.
