Vol. 563 No. 4

Written Answers - Crime Prevention.

Seán Crowe

Question:

543 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the fact that crack cocaine is being openly sold in Moore St., Dublin, only metres away from O'Connell St., Dublin's main thoroughfare; and the measures or proposals his Department intends to introduce in conjunction with the Garda authorities to eliminate this danger from the streets of our capital in view of this serious and dangerous development. [7819/03]

There are some reports that a low level of crack cocaine may be available in the area referred to by the Deputy. In response, a number of Garda operations have been carried out, including the search of premises in Moore Street. Items of drug-related paraphernalia have been seized and are being examined forensically. Arising from a recent separate operation in the area in which a significant quantity of herbal cannabis was seized, three persons have been charged with offences involving the supply of illegal drugs. Files on four other persons arrested in the same operation are being examined by the DPP.
