Vol. 563 No. 4

Written Answers - Crime Prevention.

Tony Gregory

Question:

578 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of reported incidents of muggings or violent attacks in or around Connolly Station, Dublin 1, to date in 2003; if this marks an increase in such attacks; if the Garda considers it necessary to recommend to Iarnród Éireann the provision of security personnel or closed circuit television, particularly on the public access route through the station to Custom House Harbour; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8370/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that there were 14 crimes recorded in and around Connolly Station during the period 1 January 2003 to date as follows: four mobile phone thefts, eight thefts from the person by pickpockets and two other thefts. This represents an increase over the same period last year.

The Garda Síochána, through its crime prevention officers, regularly advises individuals and organisations on crime prevention and reduction measures. This advice is often sought by the persons or organisations concerned or offered by the Garda when it sees a problem develop. It is, however, not the policy of the Garda Síochána to comment on or make public the advice offered.
