Vol. 563 No. 6

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31. I will call on Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office. I call on Deputy Connolly to state the matter.

I wish to seek the adjournment of Dáil Éireann under Standing Order 31 to raise an issue of urgent national importance, namely the closure of 115 public beds at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital, Dublin, and the likely re-opening of these same beds under the national treatment purchase scheme.

I ask that Dáil Éireann be adjourned under Standing Order 31 to address the latest disclosure of meltdown in the health service, with the closure of 115 beds due to an €18 million deficit facing the Mater Misericordiae Hospital, Dublin, this year and the reality that once more people will die due to Government mismanagement.

I move the adjournment of Dáil Éireann under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following matter of urgent importance, the cutbacks in the Mater Misericordiae Hospital, Dublin, which will force the closure of 115 beds this year, and as a result hundreds of patients on public waiting lists will have their operations postponed, and the warning from doctors that urgent cases are at present waiting months before undergoing surgery.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it in accordance with Standing Order 31.
