Michael Ring

Question:

183 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will review the proposal to close the Sligo Education Centre; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8690/03]

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

187 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education and Science his views on the proposed closure of Sligo Education Centre; if the closure of this and other such centres will be averted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8694/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 183 and 187 together.

The Sligo Education Centre is not scheduled for closure. However, a report has been presented to my Department by the Centre for Management Organisation and Development, CMOD, reviewing the education centres. This report contains a wide range of recommendations, which pertain to three full-time centres – Kildare, Kilkenny, and Sligo – and to the closure of all part-time centres, excluding the Gaeltacht part-time centres.

The CMOD review and its wide range of recommendations are being considered in my Department and decisions regarding them will be taken following a thorough consideration of all the relevant issues and following full consultation with the ATECI.
