Written Answers - Official Engagements.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

191 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education and Science the nature and content of discussions he held with representatives of third level education services during his recent visit to Australia; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8804/03]

Successive Irish Governments have traditionally availed of the period around St. Patrick's Day to capitalise on the goodwill and unparalleled opportunities generated by the celebrations to promote Ireland around the world.

I accompanied the President on her recent official visit to Australia from 8 to 18 March and participated in a full programme of events and meetings associated with the visit. In addition, I had meetings with the chancellor and vice-chancellor of the University of Queensland and Mr. John Dawkins, former Australian Education Minister. These meetings provided an opportunity to explore a range of education issues of mutual interest.
