Vol. 564 No. 1

Written Answers - Harbours and Piers.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

209 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the position regarding the provision of a new pier at Cromane, Killorglin, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8729/03]

A range of studies and surveys has been undertaken to identify the optimum location of new facilities at Cromane. During 2002, a cost benefit analysis was undertaken and my officials are examining some issues raised by the council in the context of the cost benefit analysis. The next step in the process is to pursue the necessary statutory permissions.

My Department has sought clarification from Kerry County Council that it is prepared to meet the 25% of the estimated €10.5 million cost of the project. Confirmation of the council's position is still awaited. It is not possible to provide funding for the Cromane project in 2003. However, the position will be kept under review in the context of the funding available in the 2004-06 period for fishery harbour development projects and overall national priorities.
Question No. 210 withdrawn.
