Question:

331 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs his proposals to involve the CDSPs as equal partners in the broad ranging review for community supports under his remit to recognise and further develop the wealth of experience within the CDSPs (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8775/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 330 and 331 together.

I refer the Deputy to the reply to Questions Nos. 108, 116, 126, 137, 139 and 141 of 26 March 2003 which outline the context within which a comprehensive consultation process was initiated in late February with the providers of schemes and programmes and the social partners on improving local delivery structures. All projects funded under the community development support programmes have been included in the consultation process.

Pending the outcome of the process, I intend to continue supporting those areas currently funded under the programme, subject to satisfactory progress being maintained within individual projects. In this regard, I can assure the Deputy that all commitments to established projects this year will be honoured.

Furthermore, in recognition of the value of the programme as a vehicle for tackling issues of poverty and social exclusion, I have made funding available to bring 15 new projects on stream, with effect from September 2003. A further 15 new start-ups are scheduled to commence in 2004, subject to available resources.
