Vol. 564 No. 1

Written Answers - Local Authority Funding.

Billy Timmins

Question:

112 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the funding he has allocated to Wicklow County Council to deal with waste management since July 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8802/03]

General purpose allocations totalling more than €45 million have been made to Wicklow County Council from the local government fund over the period 2000-03. It is a matter for each local authority to decide whether and to what extent such funding should be utilised to support the provision of waste management services.

Wicklow County Council applied last year for capital grant assistance towards the provision of recycling facilities at Avoca, Arklow, Blessington and Wicklow. The council recently responded to a request from my Department for supplementary information necessary to support these grant applications, which are under active consideration. I intend to announce a further round of recycling grant allocations shortly.
