Vol. 564 No. 1

Written Answers - Work Permits.

John McGuinness

Question:

156 Mr. McGuinness asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the date on which a work permit expired in the name of a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary; if the permit was valid on 15 March 2003; if so, the reason this person was deported to America in September 2002, having returned from a trip to Italy; if the current application will be expedited; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8914/03]

The work permit in respect of the individual concerned expired on 15 March 2002 and, as a result, the application for renewal of the work permit, received over six months later in October 2002, was invalid. This Department had no role in any deportation of the individual concerned and the Deputy may wish to raise this aspect of the matter with the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform. Further information in relation to the October 2002 application has been requested from the employer and as soon as this information is received, the application will be considered further.
