Vol. 564 No. 1

Written Answers - Flood Relief.

Ciarán Cuffe

Question:

167 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for Finance his plans to allow for public consultation prior to his Department drawing up plans or proposals for flood relief or drainage works; and if he will make a statement in regard to his proposals for same. [8632/03]

Under section 5 of the Arterial Drainage Act 1945 and section 5 of the Arterial Drainage (Amendment) Act 1995 the Commissioners of Public Works are required to exhibit publicly any proposed flood relief or drainage scheme after a preferred option has been chosen and when outline design has been prepared. In the case of a scheme being undertaken under the 1945 Act, the minimum length of time for the exhibition shall be one month, while it shall be a minimum of 14 days for exhibition for a scheme being undertaken under the 1995 Act. The proposed scheme has firstly to be submitted to the Department of Finance for approval to launch the exhibition process.
