Vol. 564 No. 3

Written Answers - Health Board Investigations.

John Bruton

Question:

189 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will provide documentary evidence that a complaint made by a person (details supplied) in County Dublin has been fully investigated and the person notified of the decision; if he will provide a copy of the report; if a copy of the report will be forwarded to the complainant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9283/03]

The assistant director of customer services and appeals of the South Western Area Health Board wrote to the person detailed in this question on 21 October 2001 giving the outcome of her investigation of the complaint against the named general practitioner. I understand that the Deputy has a copy of this letter. I reiterate that it is not the remit of the Department or the health board to investigate the reason a GMS doctor asks to have a person removed from their client list. According to the provisions of the GMS contract, doctors are free to so decide.
