Vol. 564 No. 5

Written Answers - Milk Quota.

Dan Neville

Question:

122 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if a milk quota was allocated from the hardship reserve to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick in 2002. [10082/03]

Allocations of milk quota from the national reserve are granted on the basis of recommendations from the Milk Quota Appeals Tribunal. The tribunal is a body established to consider and advise on applications for additional quota from individual producers who have suffered severe hardship in the context of the milk quota system. My Department did not receive an application on the grounds of hardship from the person named in 2002. He may, however, apply to the tribunal in the 2003-04 milk quota year when the application forms become available. The forms will be available in the autumn from his co-operative or dairy or from the milk policy division of my Department.

The person named applied for additional milk quota under the recent scheme for the allocation of 32 million litres of milk quota to committed small and medium scale milk producers who satis fied certain criteria as set out in Public Notice No. 94/15. As the conditions of the scheme were not satisfied, an allocation was not made. An appeals procedure for this scheme exists and the person named has submitted an appeal. When the appeals process is completed each appellant will be notified of the outcome.
