Vol. 564 No. 5

Written Answers - Tax Incentives.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

138 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Finance the measures he is planning to introduce to incentivize more efficient use of energy and finite resources; and his time frame for the introduction of these measures. [9922/03]

In so far as the Deputy is referring to tax incentives, I have no specific plans at present to introduce new incentives for the more efficient use of energy and finite resources. The Deputy will be aware that I announced in the budget that the Government has asked relevant Departments to advance the plans for a general carbon energy tax, with a view to introducing this from the end of 2004 and there will be a full consultation process on the issue.
