Vol. 564 No. 5

Written Answers - Flood Relief.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

151 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the extent to which his Department has offered financial assistance to Kildare County Council to alleviate various flooding locations throughout the county; if the Mill Lane, Leixlip, County Kildare, and other locations are likely to be included; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10045/03]

Funding of €1.13 million was provided in 2002 for works on the Lyreen/ Meadowbrook and the Morrell Rivers in Kildare. These works are being carried out by the Office of Public Works on behalf of Kildare County Council and €941,000 of this funding has been spent to date. The balance will be expended on works on the Morrell River this year which could not be completed in 2002 because of seasonal factors. No further funding is available to me in the current year for flood relief works in County Kildare.

Reports on the proposed flood relief works in Ardclough and Straffan were received from Kildare County Council on 30 January 2003 and are currently being examined by Office of Public Works. In addition, the county council is in the process of appointing engineers to prepare a report on flooding in the Rye Water and Liffey Rivers which impact on Mill Lane, Leixlip. I expect this report will also be forwarded to Office of Public Works when available.
