Vol. 564 No. 5

Written Answers - Overseas Development Aid.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

157 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will examine the case made by a person (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9913/03]

Officials from my Department are making inquiries about this project and I will communicate with the Deputy in relation to it as soon as possible. From the initial papers received in this matter, it would appear that the most likely avenue of potential funding for this project would be the new missionary development fund recently announced by the Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Kitt, which will facilitate missionaries in their important development activities. The establishment of this fund means missionaries will have, for the first time, a dedicated budget designed to help them carry out development projects at community level. The new fund will be administered by the Agency for Personal Service Overseas which has established a close working relationship with missionaries over many years.
