Vol. 564 No. 5

Written Answers - Departmental Staff.

Olwyn Enright

Question:

181 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science the criteria which is in place for persons who have been short-listed for temporary positions with his Department in Tullamore; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9706/03]

My Department's office in Tullamore advertised in early March 2003 to recruit temporary clerical officers to meet local requirements for short-time vacancies which may arise. Applicants were required to have a good general education, an aptitude for clerical work, good computer/ keyboard skills and interpersonal/customer service skills. Applicants were advised that shortlisting may take place in advance of the interview, depending on the number of applicants.

The closing date for receipt of completed application forms was 28 March 2003 and due to the significant number of applications received, shortlisting will be required prior to the interview process. The criteria to be used for the shortlisting will be (i) education, (ii) identified clerical/ office work skills/experience, (iii) identified computer/keyboard skills/experience and (iv) identified interpersonal/customer service skills/ experience. It is expected that interviews to establish a panel will be held before the end of April 2003.
