Vol. 564 No. 5

Written Answers - School Staffing.

Joe Costello

Question:

195 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Education and Science if the assessment of children in St. Vincent's special needs school, Navan Road, Dublin 7, has been completed; if any special needs teachers or special needs assistants have been redeployed or made redundant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9796/03]

I am advised by the school authorities that the assessment of children in St. Vincent's special school, Navan Road, Dublin 7, is ongoing.

It is a matter for the board of management as their employer to decide whether the special needs assistants at the school are to be redeployed or made redundant. In that regard, I understand that discussions are under way between the school and the relevant staff representatives.

The position of the teachers will be determined once the assessment process is completed and it is established what combination of professional inputs is appropriate for the future.
