Vol. 564 No. 5

Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

Seán Haughey

Question:

199 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Education and Science further to Parliamentary Question No. 197 of 1 April 2003, if he will give a more detailed reply in relation to Scoil Mhuire, Marino, Dublin 9; his views on whether it is appropriate to give a general reply to a specific question and to refer a Deputy to a website; if there is an application from Scoil Mhuire and when this was made; when it is likely to be sanctioned; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9816/03]

The publishing of the 2003 pro gramme on my Department's website is designed to give the maximum amount of information to managers, boards of management, principals, parents and students and to give an assurance that it is being operated in an open and transparent manner. It is hoped that it will reassure everybody that the building programme and the projects proposed are selected on the basis of objective criteria.

The budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on applications/projects that could not be included in this year's programme. In the meantime, individual schools should use their devolved grant to deal with any urgent health and safety works.
