Vol. 564 No. 5

Written Answers - Arts Funding.

Fergus O'Dowd

Question:

242 Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the arts funding from his Department allocated to County Louth for the past three years; the recipients in each case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9768/03]

Under my Department's arts and culture capital enhancement support scheme 2001-04, the Dundalk town hall and basement gallery was awarded a grant amounting to €2.5 million towards the capital refurbishment of the town hall, upgrading the basement gallery, improving customer services and backstage facilities.

The Government's contribution to current arts funding is channelled through the Arts Council. The council is autonomous in this context. Details regarding the breakdown of funding by region or recipient should be sought directly from it.
