Question:

381 Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the Garda Commissioner has advised him of the population catchment covered by the Ballyfermot Garda station, Dublin. [9526/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 325, 328, 333, 336, 345, 348, 358, 361 and 381 together.

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that Garda district boundaries differ from the boundaries of electoral districts and wards used by the Central Statistics Office to compile population statistics for each census. A Garda district can cover several electoral boundaries and an electoral boundary can cover more than one Garda district. The Garda Síochána has been working with the CSO on the calculation of population at Garda district level, but not at Garda sub-district or station level. Consequently, the information sought by the Deputy is not available in the detail sought.

I have been informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of resources, that the financial management system in the Garda Síochána is designed to collect data at a district level rather than at sub-district or station level. Consequently, the information sought in relation to individual stations is not available in the detail requested.

Question:

329 Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the outcome of any discussions he has had in recent months with the Garda Commissioner in relation to the need to divert more resources to the Kevin Street Garda station in Dublin to help tackle crime in that area. [9469/03]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of resources, including personnel, that local Garda management is satisfied that the resources currently in place in Kevin Street Garda station are adequate to meet the present policing needs of the area. I am further informed that resources are augmented from within the district and division as required. The situation will be kept under review and when additional personnel next become available the needs of Kevin Street Garda station will be fully considered within the context of the overall needs of Garda stations throughout the country.
