Vol. 564 No. 5

Written Answers - Child Care Services.

John Perry

Question:

387 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has received an application from a person (details supplied) in County Sligo for the provision of a quality child care facility with highly qualified employees, as there is no health care registered crèche in the area, which is located in close proximity to major employers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9589/03]

An application for funding under the equal opportunities child care programme 2000 to 2006 was received by the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform from the group in question on 31 March 2003 and has been forwarded to Area Development Management Limited, which carries out a technical assessment on behalf of my Department.

When this assessment is completed, projects are considered by the programme appraisal committee, chaired by my Department, before I make a final decision on the matter. This process usually involves dialogue between A.D.M Limited and the group, and we aim to respond to applications such as this within three months, depending, of course, on the completeness of the original application.
