97 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Taoiseach the number of permanent residents on the offshore inhabited islands. [8344/03]

There were 9,280 persons enumerated in offshore islands according to the results of the 1996 Census of Population. The corresponding information from the 2002 census will be available in July.
