Written Answers. - School Staffing.

John McGuinness

Question:

202 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science further to Parliamentary Question No. 328 of 11 March 2003, if a report is available yet regarding teaching support and other services at the school. [10142/03]

The authorities at St. Patrick's special school in Kilkenny have advised my Department that the child referred to by the Deputy is one of four pupils enrolled in an autism class in the school. The class has staffing of one teacher and two special needs assistants to support the needs of the pupils. A teacher has been appointed to the class on a temporary basis while the school authorities are making on-going efforts to secure the services of a fully qualified teacher.

The authorities have also advised that the pupil in question has access to appropriate therapies.
