Aengus Ó Snodaigh

Question:

234 Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if in this the bicentenary year of the death of Robert Emmet, the Office of Public Works will move the statue of Robert Emmet out from the shadows in St. Stephen's Green to a more visible location, namely the top of Grafton Street looking towards the location of Robert Emmet's former house, now the Fitzwilliam Hotel, St. Stephen's Green; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10285/03]

The statue of Robert Emmet was first erected in 1968 in a recess outside the railings of St. Stephen's Green. Due to vandalism it was found necessary to relocate the statue behind railings in July 2001 and in agreement with the Robert Emmet statue committee. It is not proposed to relocate it again.
