Vol. 565 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Seamus Kirk

Question:

45 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department has considered the feasibility of developing system built structures as part of the primary school building programme with the possibility of the buildings being transferred in respect of needs in other areas; if consideration will be given to undertaking such a project on a pilot basis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10298/03]

My Department is examining options regarding the provision of various types of accommodation to suit the needs of schools. These include lightweight structures, the use of standard designs and a greater use of "quick build" pre-engineered building methods.

The budgetary allocation will ultimately influence decisions in this regard and determine the number of projects that can proceed to construction as part of a building programme.
