Vol. 565 No. 2

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Olwyn Enright

Question:

141 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science if a special needs assistant is going to be provided for a person (details supplied); and when it will be provided. [10377/03]

My Department allocates resource teacher posts, special needs assistant posts and concessionary teaching hours to second level schools and vocational education committees to cater for pupils with special needs. Applications for such support are made to my Department by the relevant school authorities. Each case is considered on its merits and the nature and level of support provided is based on the professionally assessed needs of the individual pupil.

My Department has already approved an allocation of additional teaching hours to County Cork VEC to cater for the educational needs of the pupil in question.
