Question:

169 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the current position in an application for re-patriation by a person (details supplied) in County Wicklow in view of the urgency of this application and the serious concerns of the family; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11276/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 164 and 169 together.

I have consented to this application following confirmation of the legal position regarding the sentence to be served here. Correspondence outlining how the sentence will be enforced here, and seeking the consent of the applicant and the authorities in Panama has been sent, via the Department of Foreign Affairs, to the authorities in Panama. It is necessary to have the informed consent of all parties to the transfer in order to apply for a High Court warrant authorising transfer into the country and the applicant's continued detention here. I can assure the Deputy that my officials are seeking to finalise the application as a matter of urgency.
