Vol. 566 No. 1

Written Answers. - Criminal Prosecutions.

John Gormley

Question:

651 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform further to his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 233 of 9 April 2003, the legislation under which the Garda hopes to secure a prosecution against those involved in burning plastic from copper wire at Hannover Quay, Ringsend. [11930/03]

Further to my reply to Question No. 233 of 9 April 2003, the appropriate legislation to deal with the issues raised by the Deputy are contained in the following Acts of the Oireachtas: the Litter Pollution Act 1997; the Waste Management Act 1996 and the Air Pollution Act 1987.

An Garda Síochána and the local authorities enforce these Acts within their respective remits.
