Vol. 566 No. 1

Written Answers. - Road Network.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

738 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his plans in respect of the promised road pavement management study; if the study will be done by local authorities or by independent consultants; and if by consultants, if there will be an opportunity for them to avail of local knowledge provided by county council engineers. [12102/03]

My Department has recently sought tenders from consultants to carry out a pavement condition study and a review of pavement management systems suitable for use in relation to the non-national road network. The closing date for receipt of tenders is 18 June 2003.

I envisage that the local knowledge of county council engineers will be made available to this process formally through the steering committee for the study, upon which they will be represented, and informally throughout the duration of the study.
