IDA Ireland, the agency with statutory responsibility for the attraction of foreign direct investment to Ireland, continues to actively market Dublin as a location for new investment projects. There have been five new projects in north Dublin – including expansions – announced within the past 12 months.
Just over a fortnight ago, on 23 April, I was pleased to announce that Accenture, Ireland's leading management consulting and technology service company, plans to create an additional 150 jobs in Dublin before the end of the year. The company, which already has its European service centre in Dublin, is expanding its operations in response to increased demand. The services provided by Accenture cover a broad range of areas, including software development, web services, business processes, IT outsourcing and application management. Approximately half, 70, of these jobs will be located at Harbourmaster Place, Dublin 1, with the remainder going to Grand Canal Plaza, Dublin 4.
On 14 April 2003, I announced that Overture Services Inc., the global leader in commercial search services on the Internet, has established its new search services and operations centre in East Point Business Park, Fairview with the support of IDA Ireland. The Dublin centre will employ a multinational workforce of nearly 100 editors and customer service representatives by the end of 2003. The investment is a further boost for the Government's strategy to make Ireland a leading player in the digital media industry and will strengthen our standing as a prime location for global Internet services.
On 21 February 2003, it was announced that multinational company Ingersoll Rand Company Limited aims to create 200 new jobs in Dublin over the next two years in its global export sales and service trading company, Ingersoll-Rand International Limited, IRI. The announcement was made by the Taoiseach at the launch of Ingersoll-Rand International, which took place in the company's new facility in Airside Business Park, Swords. This company is a diversified multinational manufacturer of industrial and commercial equipment and components for the global markets of security and safety, industrial solutions and infrastructure.
On 14 November 2002, the Taoiseach announced the creation of up to 150 new jobs by 2004, in a new €30 million facility at the Hertz European Service Centre in IDA Business Park, Swords. This development will provide job opportunities from entry to management level, across a spectrum of sectors, including reservations and sales, customer service, human resources, training and development, facilities management, administration and various accounting and finance roles.
