Dermot Fitzpatrick

Question:

125 Dr. Fitzpatrick asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the amount of funding from the EU Cohesion Fund which was allocated in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003; the work which has taken place to date; if all the allocations have been spent in relation to road No. R311, the Castlebar to Newport road, County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13283/03]

My Department has allocated funding to Mayo County Council for the R311 Newport-Castlebar road under the EU co-financed specific improvement grants scheme, under which 75% of the cost of schemes in the BMW region is recouped from the European Regional Development Fund. Details of payments or allocations from 2000 to date are set out in the following table:

R311 Newport-Castlebar Road

Year

Payment

2000

126,974

2001

177,764

2002

579,000

2003

800,000 (Allocation)

It is understood that grant expenditure to date has mainly involved land acquisition costs.
