Written Answers. - Gaelic Chiefs.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

91 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the status of the Chief Herald's general review of procedures for recognising Gaelic chiefs by courtesy, following the withdrawal of recognition from a person (details supplied) in 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13277/03]

The position on courtesy recognit ion of "chiefs of the name" is still under review. I hope to come to a decision on the matter in the near future.

Question:

93 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism if decisions have been made on the Chief Herald's courtesy recognitions of O'Doherty of Inishowen, O'Long of Garranelongy, O'Carroll of Eile, O'Rourke of Brifne and MacDonnell of the Glens; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13279/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 92 and 93 together.

No decision has been made to date regarding these courtesy recognitions. The whole matter of the recognition of courtesy titles is under review at present and I hope to come to a decision in the matter in the near future.
